Solar Eclipse. What we learned today.

There you have it, the solar eclipse. Did you watch it live, on television, or not at all? It seemed the entire country was wrapped around this event and we [at least most of us] anxiously awaited the time in which we could step outside with our solar glasses, boxes with holes punched in them, or colanders to watch distant objects in space cross in front of our very eyes.
But what did we learn?
I learned trying to capture time lapse photography of a moving subject, 92.96 million miles away, is a challenge. Are there things I'd like to change? Things I'd like to have done differently? Sure. But I learned a little about how to do it today. The next opportunity to hone my skill will be July 2, 2019 in South America. Or, maybe April 8, 2024 back here in the United States.
I learned that as much as people may say they don't like science and somehow science seemingly always gets reserved for the ultra smart, they did and it wasn't today.
I learned the news focused on something we can all be interested in. Something positive. Something educational. Something just plain cool.
Do you know what else I learned today? I learned the names of my neighbors after years of living on a street because something different happened today and we all went outside at the same time to enjoy the same moment.
I learned this world needs more of what happened today.
I learned we need more science.
